Yeasu VX 170

Post by hobo 150 » Mon Feb 11, 2008 8:41 pm

Just wondering if any member is familiar with the Yeasu VX 170 hand held radio.
I am looking at this radio and was curious as if anyone had and reviews about it.
Also would be interested in any programming tips or advice that might be beneficial.
I plan or using the radio as a railroad scanner at this point and maybe as a ham radio in the future.
Thanks for any advice!

I've been using a 150 for 5 years.
Am very pleased with it. My Radio Shack
stays at home and the Bearcat is loaned out.
The Vertex is more difficult to program than
a scanner. The biggest problem I had was that
the instructions left out a step.I felt like a real
dumbass that I couldn't get it to scan. Then a guy on
Trainorders very patiently explained the procedure,
and it's been a go ever since.QUICK,check this thread on
