I bought a fm modulator for an mp3 player, non ipod one with a eighth inch stereo plug input for it. (Belkin brand at Walmart for like just under 30 bucks)
I tried plugging it into handheld scanner with crappy built in speaker, and if not fully inserted, it works great, never heard such clear sound before without a booster/speaker combo( usually over 30 bucks), but even my car stereo beat those!
Also the scanner hides under the seat, and if I get pulled over in a state I am not supposed to have one in car in, its out of sight, and when car stereos off, scanners audios off!( Last time I was pulled over or bothered by a police officer was for speeding in Ohio in 2001 though anyway)
Handy way to make a scanners audio clearer.

Re: Handy way to make a scanners audio clearer.
So, I'm ignorant. What's on the other end of the modulator cord?
Serious question.I run my Vertex into my truck stereo using
a tape adapter.Could use something for out on porch.
EDIT :OK, modulator means transmitter? I have a little Irock thing
that I use from scanner into house stereo system. This what you mean?
Back to the game.
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you got it figured out Mark. I take it that when you're at home that you tune the stereo to a specific frequency to listen to the scanner?
