Plop Spot 10-19-12

Post by jett37 » Sat Oct 20, 2012 1:53 pm

Weather was from the Out House yesterday (10-19-) but wife was away so I decided to go to the Plop Spot at CP 229. Turned out to be a pretty good day for train watching inspite of shooting video from under a umbrella. The L82 went to Progress Rail and brought back 12 new units to CP Bath. There they swapped out with another crew and the train departed towards Ft. Wayne as the 057. Also NS sent E/B train 099 with 9 units for trade in ( I was told). Two SD38s, 3804-3810 and seven MP15 switchers. 2338-2344-2343-2339-2316-2331-2330.
Other trains seen were-------. jett

O57 stopped at NE around 5:30-6:00. There was some congestion as it looked like they were replacing a rail on the North track in the road crossing at Hartzell Road. After a 5-10 minute wait, O57 continued East on the Fostoria District. As I was heading home, the local was crossing the Maumee river from the North and you could see a head light of another train behind itl

Nice that they used an SD70ACe to pick up 12 more of its siblings. RIP to the trade-ins, soon enough they will be gensets i'd assume.

How did it come by the name Plop Spot?

My favorite plop spots were Sands tower in Kenton Oh, were the EL and PC's line from Sandusky crossed. Ridgeway tower and the crossing of PC's b-line and PC's western branch and last but not least AC tower in Marion when it was were it belonged.
Those were the days and I sure miss them. Ken 8)

Rail Fans always watched trains from the parking lot of the old NYC Frt. building between Liberty and Walnut St. A CSX engineer called it the RF Plop Spot. After the used lumber outfit took over we moved to the East side of Walnut St. When that spot was owned by Delaware Machine their security guards would run us off if we stayed around. Since Delaware Machine went bankrupt and Delaware Dynamics (I think it is called) purchased the property so far have tolerated us parking there. jett
