Intriguing. Abandoned route? GR&I or FW&J?

Nah, as far as I know, this is pretty unique.

I've only seen one other in my travels around the area, and it has no legible text. Maybe I'll post a pic of it's twin tomorrow.

If someone here has come across this sign, they'd be able to answer right away, I'm sure. Will tomorrow's pic have any visible physical clues? Guess we'll wait and see.

From the weathering of the sign I'm going to guess somewhere on the abandoned EL line. I think maybe I've seen this sign or another like it on my travels of the line between Huntington and Newton.

How about Winter Street entrance to the former PRR roundhouse property.

How about that 2nd view? Whether I've seen it or not, I don't remember it. I seem to have a lot of company in that regard.

You mean you guys can't tell from the tree limbs? Just kidding. Looking through my photos from the day, it turns out I didn't take a wider shot of the sign, just different close-up angles.

Here is the best picture I got of its illegible mate:

080811 012.jpg

(Its next to the streetlight pole.)

Without giving it away completely, the picture in the original post (the legible one) is 1.38 Google Earth-measured miles away from the illegible one. It is guarding a now-removed rail alignment from the traveling public. Hopefully this jogs some memories.

Goshen, where the Marion Branch ties into the Chicago Line main. Wonder if that sign is a original Big Four sign?

Bzzzt. Time's up.

The sign is where the Bag Factory spur in Goshen intersects the alley behind the houses on the north side of Cosmo Ave.

It is mounted on a rail that has "CRMCO 9 . 72" stamped on it.

So, since most of us haven't seen a sign like that before, could it have been put up by the bag factory and not the RR?
