368/369

Post by RK157 » Fri Feb 03, 2012 4:59 pm

The final run for the 313 out of Ft Wayne is tonight. Monday 313's have sometimes been over 100 cars, plugging up Muncie East Yard. The 368/369 will help ease some congestion. The 368 will run 7 days a week starting tonight at 1201am from Muncie-Ft Wayne, with the 369 running the reverse trip daily at 6pm. The 313 never ran over the weekend, so this new setup should keep things more fluid. The L68/L69 will continue to switch industries.

I heard 313 sitting at Hugo after midnight, they told
dispatcher they had four hours to go.Was there a 282
involved in a collision?I also was hearing "pulling tape",
train master, and many crews griping about sitting and
the "schedule being thrown off".I was dozing off.

Something went down last night as the 282, 289 and 197 were all recrewed. Haven't heard what it was.

I WAS LISTENING LAST NIGHT WHEN NEW CASTLE DISP TOLD TRAIN CREW THE ROAD FOREMAN WAS ON HIS WAY TO KINGSLAND TO PULL TAPE AND WOULD HELP THEM BREAK THE TRAIN FOR THE CROSSING. DIDN'T GET THE TRAIN NO. I THINK IT WAS AROUND 1000 OR 1100 PM. DIDN'T HEAR ANY OTHER DETAILS.

Thanks for heads up, but I wasn't home. When I did get home I wan't paying any attention. I did hear 289, I think, asking about a re-crew as I pulled into the driveway.

313 ran 6 days a week after it took over the run from 417. I take it they will be spending more time making up their train in the yard before departing and that is why they will only go one way instead of out and back?

After the Hours of Service deal kicked in, 5 days a week didn't cut it. The 313 would get recrewed at least 4-5 times a month as well. This new 368/369 setup will clean the Ft Wayne cars out of Muncie East Yards, which on any given day, made up about 60-70% of Muncie's inventory. The one way running now should make any recrews a rare thing, plus daily car counts will be spread over 7 days now instead of 5.

Since engines can't be refueled in Muncie anymore, getting needed power to and from Muncie for refueling/maintenance etc will be better as well. Before, if Muncie needed a motor or two on a Monday local, it would have to come down from the Fort on Friday and sit idle all weekend. Now they can dispatch it out on Sunday's 369 for use Monday.
