Van Wert Question

Post by RDJ » Fri Feb 19, 2016 8:10 pm

Haven't had the occasion to drive US 30 east in quite sometime.
However today as I went over the over pass just before the Van Wert exit I
noticed a railroad track coming from the north and ending a short way on
the south side of the road.
There was a tank car setting just short of where the track ended.
Last time I went that way I am almost sure that track wasn't there.

What is the name of the railroad and when was the track installed?
What railroad does the north end connect to?

Interesting. Sat. I posted a response to this question, and it was posted, but is now gone.

The spur that RD saw is actually connected on the south end to the CSX/CF&E (former PRR) line in Van Wert, and extends about 2 miles north to a proposed industrial park north of US-30. Another spur extends south from the CSX/CF&E to an industrial park on the south side of the city.

All of this is on former Cincinnati Northern (Big-Four) right-of-way.

Is there any car movements on the south end ? I believe it was the Budd Company that made SMC/Fiberglass materials.. The Budd Company does not exist anymore was curious if someone purchased and operates this anymore ?

Craig, I logged into the Administration Control Panel and nobody had logged into the Administration Control Panel for months so nobody deleted your post.. I was curious.

The plant is still in operation but with a new owner and a name change. Still getting cars in and out.
