Are there any railfan groups or clubs in the area?

Here's the place to just kick back and discuss pretty much anything under the sun.

Are there any railfan groups or clubs in the area?

Are there any railfan groups or clubs in Fort Wayne or Wells County? I was thinking one with a view of a track. My google search turned up nothing.

Nothing formally organized. Sometimes someone will post on this site or the Indiana Railfan site, "hey let's meet at..."
Otherwise, railfanning is generally, but not always, a lone wolf activity. I have a friend, who if he sees another person, will leave and go elsewhere. I don't know why...
I will say hi, and gage their reaction and go or stay accordingly.

Probably the closest thing to a club around that I know of is sitting at the Perch in New Haven. I met quite a few of you guys there when I lived in town and always see a car or two there when i'm passing through on occasion.

Back in '07-'09 several of us from this site had some informal breakfast meetings at restaurants around the area followed by a trip up to the nearest rail line.

The Perch refers to the parking lot at the Erie Haven cement plant on Hartzell Rd in New Haven, at the east end of East Wayne Yard. It offers a good view of trains crossing the diamonds at NE as well as a view of trains entering/exiting East Wayne yard. There is a gravel lot between the road and the gate/fence around the cement plant where railfans tend to gather like geese sometimes.

See the following link for more information. The bottom photo on this page was taken from the Perch.

And the NS police will generally leave you alone if you are there if you stay in the lot (do not get on the ballast). Go anywhere else and you are a potential terrorist.

Plan a day Mike and I'll try and join up. Be nice to talk trains with you again. Been a while. I will probably stay away from the Big Daddy's breakfast and not try to keep pace with you. (A bowl of cooked Oats sounds about right, breakfast of the Old Guy's) :D jett
