New Haven NKP January 1961

NKP 2-8-4 class S-2 no. 769 and B-B class ARS-18a no. 560 in New Haven in January 1961.

No. 769 had one year left: it was built by Lima in Sept. 1944 and scrapped in Jan. 1962. No. 560 was an 1800 HP built by ALCO in early-1956, model DL-701/RS-11.

Toledo & Chicago Interurban Presentation

I will make the T&C presentation at Auburn's temporary Eckhart Library: June 9, 2:00 p.m. 1029 W. 7th St., Auburn. Free. The attached photo was taken on today's CR-327 south of Garrett, north of CR-64 (the Indian Springs Campground Rd.). We are looking south. On the right near the mailbox is a hump ...

T&C Interurban 1913-1914

When the Toledo & Chicago Interurban was reorganized in 1913, its successor, Ft. Wayne & Northwestern, photographed the rail/highway crossings. The attached photo is looking east on Coliseum across Lima Rd.

Not quite seven lanes in each direction.

Indiana Northeastern Engine House, Hudson

A few photos inside the engine house on the west side of Hudson. IN has 10 locomotives. Most or all of the B-B units were at Hudson, and C-C at Montpelier.

Re: Ft. Wayne FW&J 4th St. Yards 2018

We didn't find any railroad artifacts other than the pieces of the railcar around the guy wire. We found a few automobile parts. They earned money recycling metal.

Ft. Wayne FW&J 4th St. Yards 2018

No surprise that an electromagnetic underground search found some anomalies in the former Ft. Wayne, Jackson & Saginaw's 4th St. yards in Ft. Wayne. We did some dig-ups Thurs. and Fri. to see if there were any buried NYC 4-8-4 Niagara's. So far, just concrete, bricks and some scrap. Nothing of arche...

Re: ND&W very busy

What company gets the tanks cars on ND&W at Woodburn, or are they just being stored?

There were a lot of cars at NS-ND&W interchange Thurs. evening. ND&W 1603 wasn't running.

New OmniSource Gondolas

I found a string of new OmniSource gons at West Wayne. It's unusual to see them without damage or graffiti.

Steubenville Diamond

The Steubenville depot is in Pleasant Lake. The Steubenville diamond is at INRD's engine house west of Hudson, where scrap-ready CSX GP-30 4216 (ex-C&O 3021) was about to cross it when the attached photo was taken.

Butler NS Right-of-Way Clearing

This photo is looking east from Broadway on NYC's Air Line toward the Wabash crossing at Butler. Why is NS clearing the area south of the track? The roadbed on the right side of the ditch was the Wabash RR connection to the Eel River RR. They connected in the middle of Broadway. The building at righ...

Re: NKP # 157

Maybe southbound at the whistle post for the McKinley St. crossing, which no longer exists. LE&W had a Y-connection to ISC's street and interurban track at Taylor St., but Charlie Willer told me that LE&W also had a lead into the interurban's McKinley St. yards, which would have been at right, in th...

Virginian Heritage Unit

I went out railfanning this weekend and found NS's Virginian heritage unit in the tiny berg of Corunna, Indiana, on NYC's Air Line. It's running but has some problem, so they de-trained it there for a while. Another guy taking photos said it has been there for a couple days. Note how the years of we...

Re: Pennsylvania S2

This photo was taken when PRR was showing off its newest locomotive in Chicago in Dec. 1944, three weeks after S2 was delivered to PRR and before it was placed in service. The model has her hand on the throttle.
