Re: Headwaters Junction acquires purchase agreement for NS/NYC ROW

Great accomplishment for the Headwaters Junction team! There's a LOT of people out really pulling for you guys to make it a reality. Kudos to Steel Dynamics for stepping up to the plate on the rail. Beyond the huge economic impact SDI has had on Northeast Indiana, their corporate generosity is reall...

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

Yeah, post 1982, Conrail in Fort Wayne proper didn't look a whole lot different than the CF&E does now. I think the CF&E keeps more power here though, but that may be because of the locomotive shop.

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

That's entirely possible, but this is the first time I have ever heard anyone trying to make the connection. I can't imagine that very many people are actually familiar with that date. I wasn't, and I followed the Conrail split like a greyhound on a rabbit. 6/1/99 will always be the date I remember,...

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

Well, I'll just say that if there IS any connection between the date and the Conrail Heritage Unit, it is news to me. It was my understanding that these units were chosen because they had yet to be painted, as I believe these were shipped from Erie in primer and Altoona painted some or all of the GE...

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

No, they just grabbed eight units out of GE order 1991 (NS 8098-8105) and made them Heritage Units. And then for reasons I no longer remember, they grabbed #8025 and #8114 to make the last two GE Heritage units. The ten EMD Heritage Units are NS 1065-1074, all out of order # 20116573.

Re: Ft Wayne Bass & Hadley Roundabout

I haven't noticed that particular phenomenon myself, but I never cease to be amazed at the absolute GLACIAL pace of some of these projects. I know the last couple years rainy weather has hampered things, but I see an awful lot of of what looks to be poor planning and not enough manpower assigned to ...

Re: Ft Wayne Bass & Hadley Roundabout

Just to be clear, I have NO ISSUE with money being spent to improve Bass Road. That area is growing quickly and the upgrades NEED to be done, but as is so often the case, I don't think we got very much bang for our buck. After all of that work, and an inexcusable amount of time to do it, we still ba...

Re: Ft Wayne Bass & Hadley Roundabout

We could get far better results in traffic control and energy savings by PROPERLY programming traffic lights than we will EVER get from roundabouts, but my two primary complaints have little to do with the roundabouts themselves. First, this project has done next to nothing to actually INCREASE that...

Re: Ft Wayne Bass & Hadley Roundabout

If there was ever a solution looking for a problem to solve, that project was it. What a colossal waste of time and money, and the that entire project, all the way back to the rebuilding of the I69 bridge could not POSSIBLY been more poorly executed.

Re: Wabash Indiana

It is my understanding that the Marion Branch cannot run auto racks or double stacks because of that bridge. I also understand a clearance project there has been discussed, but due to the rather stiff grade there, simply undercutting would be problematic, which would leave raising the Wabash line, e...

Re: W&LE on CF&E

The owner of the W&LE is an ex-Rio Grande man. They bought several ex-DRGW units when UP was thinning the herd, and some are still in service in their full Rio Grande paint, while other locos have been painted in this tribute scheme. here is a pic of a couple of their units waiting to leave Bellevue...

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

Another crappy old scan of a dreary day, but worth a look. I don't have the date on this one at the moment, but sometime in the 90's shortly after the diamonds came out at Mike and were replaced by switches.

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

Both of my Sonys are capable of shooting in RAW format, but honestly, I have never even tried to do it. I guess I should experiment. This particular picture is admittedly lees than it should be for two reasons. One, the camera settings were less than optimum, and two, it was a good bit darker that n...
