I guess I worded my reply too strongly. I was only trying to say it looked like we might be headed that way(flaming and other less civil discussions), not that we were already there. My apologies. I was trying to point out that sometimes people take offense to what someone else posted whether it was...

Hang around rail-related forums for a while and see how many posters get flamed for expressing an different opinion or suggesting something new. Watch how they get corrected if they happen to get the facts incorrect. Then see if you still feel that way.

Amen brother. I spend a lot less time on the trains.com forum just for that reason. They spend so much time pissing and moaning semantics that you can't see where they're talking about trains anymore. That's why I try to phrase my responses with "I think/thought..." so that there is room for disagre...

Looks like you got your answer to the question. Hill Street will get you back there and will go all the way to Lagro with the tracks is sight most of the way. As you wind your way back you'll see an unusual street arrangement (closed now) that has a "T" intersection as it crossed the track.

Re: 042 & 044

Mike....the plant was idle for the longest time and it was almost like overnight it swung into full production....from what I have seen and heard from some of the local folk is they build them from the ground up there and ship them via truck to Elkhart for loading...some are shipped direct via semi...

Wayne, I forgot to put the  after the "Std RR of the World" in my earlier comment. Wasn't it was built by a railroad that was taken over by the Pennsy? If so it wasn't built to their standards, or it was only built as a branchline, so it follows the lay of the land more. The north end of the N...

The section from New Castle eastward was ex Pennsy, "the Standard Railroad of the World". I remember heading home from Cincy via the scenic route back in the early 90's and coming out of a town I paced side-by-side with a C39-8 pulling a coal train for several miles.

After the Conrail split, traffic on the NCD cooled. I can't cite tonnage or revenue figures, just a gut feeling from spending some time trackside. If if makes you feel any better, I think traffic is growing as a number of the stack trains are running in two sections some days. Plus add in the FEMA t...

I did a google on fairmont speeder (one of several manufactures) and found this website: http://www.narcoa.org/forsale/4sale_want.htm You might find what you are looking for there. I know someone down by Kokomo who owns one and last fall went on a 100 mile weekend trip in upstate NewYork in the fall...

training

They were good classes, full of information. You forgot to mention the written tests that qualify you to mark up as a student brakeman. (The job's not done until the paperwork is in order.) Did you intentionally omit that so as to not scare off potential members?

Trains O42 & O44

I was following the ex-Pennsy the other day and went through Etna Green. I noticed at the former manufactured housing plant a parking lot full of FEMA trailers. Are they just parked there for staging/storage? They aren't loading them onto RR flatcars there are they? That might explain why trains O42...
