I was thinking that Hugo was once known as Muncie Crossing or Muncie Junction or something similar.

Re: LS&MS Caboose

There's no trainline, I thought that by 1902, the federal government required air brakes on all railroad cars but perhaps there were amendments permitting equipment not interchanged to be run without a air brake system. I see marker lights on the cupola, if so equipped, they would have been red for ...

That weird kink is where the platform for the Wabash passenger station was.

Re: Anybody remember this sign?

No, didn't see that sign and didn't know it was the Cheetah. That's pretty funny. NS crews didn't really go there until the days that Triple Crown started up. I know the interchange was still active east of Mike Tower on the south side on the former Wabash and, I have to confess, I was never up the ...

Re: Columbus-Chicago Passenger rail initiative clears hurdle

I hope I'm wrong but I wonder how many travelers think, "Hey, let's go to Fort Wayne". This would be great for traveling to Chicago, not sure how many people want to go to Columbus. I grew up in Central Ohio and it would be a great thrill for me to ride a passenger train from Fort Wayne to Columbus ...

Re: McCray Refridgerator Company 1940

So much to see in the 1910 photograph, a crossing watchman tower at Main Street, a caboose, as well as a engine, the southbound semaphore home signal on the GR&I protecting the diamond, a carriage parked north of the railroad crossing without a horse. That there were once six tracks across Main Stre...

Love your 444 card, Mr. Jetmore, taken at Hackley, I'd almost forgotten what it looked like, even though I saw it all the time.

Edsall Avenue

My apologies to the forum, I certainly didn't mean to post this entry twice and must have, somehow, entered it twice when I brought it up on preview. Longtime structure to be replaced: Closed since mid-2015, steps are being taken to replace the Edsall Avenue Bridge. http://news-sentinel.com/news/loc...

Longtime structure to be replaced: Closed since mid-2015, steps are being taken to replace the Edsall Avenue Bridge. http://news-sentinel.com/news/local/County-OKs-contract-to-prepare-for-Edsall-Bridge-replacement I thought maybe it was older than 68 years old. Does anyone know if it replaced a prev...

Re: Playing Chicken on LE&W, 1960

I know that there were two wye interchange tracks in the northwest corner of the diamond at Hugo but I don't know if there was also a connection in the southeast corner like today. Were these separate interchange tracks, one being for the Lake Erie and Fort Wayne and the other for the LE&W/NYC? I do...

Re: Playing Chicken on LE&W, 1960

Isn't that Slater Steel on the left? Was it called Slater Steel in those days? If so, the NYC is northbound. I hadn't realized until a number of years ago that the NYC used to run south as far as Hugo for interchange but then I saw a picture taken of a NYC Geep that was taken from Hugo tower. I wond...
