Re: Lost Fort Wayne

Can anyone say for sure when the Wabash Passenger station was torn down? I remember it being "up and running" back in the day, and remember seeing the stairway to nowhere years later, but can't actually fill the gap in between. Was there any interim use between the end of passenger service and the w...

Re: Back Again

. The eastern half of Airport Expressway is a head scratcher too. Lining it up to meet Tillman and not Paulding would have made a LOT more sense, and carry it all the way to 27, not just die on the vine at Fairfield. {**dubious fanfare**} Now you are getting into a realm that I actually know someth...

Re: Back Again

Well, I guess we are on opposite sides of the coin then. I would be upset if the locals were building 6 lane roads to nowhere with my money. I look at Ferguson Rd where it was 4 laned west of hwy 27 nearly 50 years ago, for no worthwhile reason that I can determine...and still cannot. I've lived in ...

Re: Back Again

, but then they would have to defend those decisions, and I don't think most want to do that, not that there is any media left in this town to ask an actual tough question that might put somebody on the spot. If you want to defend the cluster**** that is the Bass Road project, take your best shot. ...

Re: Traffic since Covid-19

Isn't the cement distributor at the end of the line? INDOT and others are still using concrete, so it should be busy.
Honestly, I would have to take your word on that, I'm not sure who their customers are. I just hear their horns occasionally.

Re: Back Again

I believe that any well-founded premise should be easily defensible. Especially from "unqualified" critics (dumbasses, basically). I've seen several forums where it was incumbent upon the masses to kiss the hand of the "enlightened", and it didn't look like anyone besides the enlightened were enjoyi...

Re: Kendallville Indiana

Pictures like this tend to make me so angry with myself. As a youngster I had so many relatives who were old old old. I was so caught up in myself and what my future might hold, that I was totally disinterested in the experiences they had lived through. Of course I wasn't smart enough back then to h...

Re: RoadRailer almost made it 4 Decades

I also have a vague memory of seeing BNSF pulling a string of roadrailers south from Kansas City, perhaps a picture in a magazine.

Re: RoadRailer almost made it 4 Decades

Okay, that makes sense. One small nit-pick....didn't they reach Dallas through Meridian Mississippi, not St Louis?

Re: RoadRailer almost made it 4 Decades

Anyone have thoughts into the decision making process of why Ft Wayne was selected to be the main hub?

Re: RoadRailer almost made it 4 Decades

Passenger unit? Those must be the ones that had shackles in them? I recall when NS first started operating over off Brooklyn Ave...I think you guys call it "New" yard. I was living out west, but my mother was living right across the river from there, and she used to complain endlessly abou...

Re: Fruehauf Trailer

Incidentally, although it falls outside the realm of railroading, or even Fruehauf, some of you might find it interesting to go over to wikipedia and run searches on "History of Manufactured Gas", "water gas", "producer gas", and "wood gas" for a look at the birth of the gas industry as we know it t...
