Re: Ft Wayne Bass & Hadley Roundabout
I'd love to see this in action as a train approaches, the gates lower, and roundabout traffic stops. But, I'm not going to wait all day for a train. I was hoping the County Highway Dept, Journal Gazette, WANE-TV, etc. would post a video, but nothing yet. Is there a more likely time than not to catch...

Re: NKP History in Ft. Wayne
An artifact remains from the railroad's presence in Polk St. (besides the grassy median): The stamped tin plate with the Franklin Ave. railroad crossing's DOT number is still attached to the streetlight pole on the southeast corner of Polk & Franklin.

I'm not in NE Indiana anymore, but I still lurk on here occasionally.
Wish we had a site like this for NW Illinois.

Re: CF&E question
Maybe NS handles maintenance calls on the CF&E crossings near Hill & Sand junctions. However, in my previous life, I negotiated warning device upgrades for the Bass & Hadley crossings, and I dealt with RailAmerica engineers for those projects. There must be a construction/maintenance division of lab...

I've seen this thing tons of times but had no idea what it was. What leads you to believe it's an old crossbuck?

Re: The Nickle Plate Relocation that never was.
Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on the Indiana Dept. of Highways plan for the to-be-vacated NKP alignment through downtown: NKP Parkway 2.JPG For ease of orientation, Beuter Rd. is now Coliseum Blvd. and the cloverleaf did not exist yet. The accuracy in representing the relocated railroad line...

Re: Where in the World? 8/11/11
Update, 2 years later: In addition to the legible sign on the Bag Factory spur and the illegible ones on 9th St. in Goshen and on the INER, I've found another illegible one. In Ligonier, a sign is visible from Mercer St. where Water St. would cross NS if it did. I have no photos of this location, so...

Re: New Track
This track was removed for a short time because NS originally built it right through the planned location of one of the new Maplecrest Rd. bridge piers. This was after NS signed off on the proposed pier locations.

I found a third sign in Ray, looking south into Indiana on the INER:
Was this track related to the track in Goshen?

Re: Where in the World? 8/11/11
I'd imagine it was put up by the Big 4 if it has a double at Ninth St., if the Big 4 actually served the Bag Factory themselves.
You think the "9 . 72" stamped on the rail corresponds to September 1872?

Bzzzt. Time's up. The sign is where the Bag Factory spur in Goshen intersects the alley behind the houses on the north side of Cosmo Ave. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=41.592819,-85.852012&hl=en&ll=41.592606,-85.852194&spn=0.002082,0.00405&sll=41.582965,-86.852932&sspn=0.066641,0.129604&vpsrc=6&z=18...

Re: Where in the World? 8/11/11
You mean you guys can't tell from the tree limbs? Just kidding. Looking through my photos from the day, it turns out I didn't take a wider shot of the sign, just different close-up angles. Here is the best picture I got of its illegible mate: 080811 012.jpg (Its next to the streetlight pole.) Withou...

Nah, as far as I know, this is pretty unique.by rrnut282 » Sat Aug 13, 2011 10:51 am
Gee, dontcha think another photo angle might be helpful?
I've only seen one other in my travels around the area, and it has no legible text. Maybe I'll post a pic of it's twin tomorrow.
