Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?
I agree with you that I'd like to know more about the plans with the 765, especially since the dark clouds of the pandemic seem to finally be lifting :) . I believe that NKP 765 will become a resident of Steuben County Indiana.. and something has me thinking this will be long term! I am not incline...

Re: Fort wayne maps 1898
Interesting that the triangle of land north of Illinois road shows being owned by the lake Erie & Western RY. One has to wonder why and how they would come to own that particular property. Interesting neighborhood, to say the least (1924) https://i.imgur.com/K3NXzxv.png VERY INTERESTING... I THINK ...

Some of those pads are clearly visible on Google Earth. I've ALWAYS wanted to go back there, but have resisted the urge.

Re: T-1 at Gay Street Bridge
My Grandfather used to take my Dad (born 1943) and my Uncle (born 1946) to the bridge to watch the trains. I can't even imagine how neat and exciting that area would have been in its heyday.

Re: Great News for the Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern
Well, I wish we could get more people and more content over here, but the sad truth is this place can be EXTREMELY dead for long periods of time. It makes for a lot of one way discussions.

Re: Wreck at California Road
Amazing that in all the years I have followed this stuff, this is the first I have EVER heard about this wreck. Everywhere you turn, you find references to the 1911 Pennsy wreck at Swinney Park, but this one which is decades more recent has just faded into oblivion. I also never cease to be amazed a...

I guess back in the day they weren't too concerned with letting the dead rest in peace.....

Re: GR&I Track Work
I drove over there today, and there was nothing around but the excavator and a small stack of track panels. I couldn't really see where anything has changed unless they finally removed the spur alongside Shambaugh (The old Potlatch building) The "main line" all looks to be in good shape, and the run...

Howard and Notch 8 are quite correct. There are various ways that scrap metal can be used to make high quality new products. One method of purifying the metal is shredding and sorting out certain metals like copper and aluminum from scrap autos, and by using only or mixing in "pure" sources of scrap...

If a tree falls in the forest, and it lands on a mime, does it make a sound? Probably not, but one less mime in the world is a win-win for everyone...... On a more serious note, this was a horrible tragic accident, and from all information I have read is just one of those "Act of God" accidents tha...

Re: Great News for the Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern
Well, one theory is that CP is backing CF&E's play here, and maybe that is where the cars will come from. As for connections, it has been suggested that that the loads will go to IHB's Gibson Yard, and IHB basically connects with everybody.

Re: Great News for the Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern
The SDI thing was just something someone threw out there on another forum and that post was actually several months old, but I know that even if true, these things don't happen overnight. Yes, I am aware that SDI wanted two railroads to have access, but that doesn't mean they couldn't just use one o...

Re: Great News for the Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern
People that work for NS are saying that yes indeed, NS DID piss off GM. Take that for what it is worth, and your guess is as good as mine how long that anger might last. Scraphauler ( a man who is well connected in the industry) over on the Indiana Railroads Bull Session forum has some interesting t...

Re: Great News for the Chicago Fort Wayne & Eastern
Doesn't NS dispatch for the Chicago line they could cause CF&E problems in moving trains. Now that the dispatching is done in Atlanta, it's unlikely any of them even know about this situation. Among the things I am unclear about is whether this new business will actually result in any more trains o...
