Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Yep, we've briefly touched on a circulating streetcar route. Was also part of the original Headwaters State Park plan from the 80s. There's merit and plenty of great precedents (Kenosha, Tampa, etc...) and the City understands that much of the "cost" of something like that is greatly helped by there...

Yep, it’s the last rendering here, made in 2013: https://headwatersjunction.com/tour/ We have a newer one that shows the project’s relationship to neighborhood development but that probably won’t be made public until later this year. 3237D810-D508-4420-83A5-8B752527AB2F.jpeg The only reason West Way...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Well, we were the only group to step forward with a joint proposal for North River with Continental Property Group when the City opened up the RFPs. Before that, we were looking to partner with Junior Achievement, but those plans never became public. No blinders here! And agree on Nebraska. A lot of...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Ohh, yes that was always the idea with North River -- use only about 10-15 acres and help mitigate remediation where possible, but right now we're soley focused on the West Wayne site.

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Great question. The best comparison I can make is the Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation (ORHF) is the "parent" of the groups that inhabit the Foundation's engine-house in Portland, Oregon. ORHF's primary mission was to create the Oregon Rail Heritage Center and now programs the Center with events, vol...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?

Good thread, all. Lemme fill in some blanks, but first some documentation... Here's a page dedicated to showcasing and documenting the sincere and significant community support that Headwaters Junction has: https://headwatersjunction.com/community/ Here's another outlining the board members and advi...

Re: Headwaters Junction acquires purchase agreement for NS/NYC ROW

That relationship you describe is essentially what it'll come down to for the time being until we make a move to acquire the rest of the stub track or what's left of the 4th street connection. It would be my preference to eventually own rest all the way to the switch to the GR&I/mainline/Runnion con...

Re: Headwaters Junction acquires purchase agreement for NS/NYC ROW

We explored a couple of different options, but entangling operating arrangements with real estate transactions get sticky fast.

Re: Headwaters Junction acquires purchase agreement for NS/NYC ROW

The article has a few minor errors -- like naming me the director of "Headwaters Park." The switch engine from Swinney was built for the Wabash, later the Lake Erie & Fort Wayne and retired in 1957: https://fortwaynerailroad.org/wabash-no-534/ The other Nickel Plate engine that the reporter makes me...

Re: NKP 624

We completed the ultrasound inspection of 624 earlier this year.

Believe it or not, the boiler and firebox are in remarkably good condition. My guess would be that the NKP did a Class 3 inspection on the 624 in the early 50s shortly before it was retired in 1955.

Re: Kelly Lynch

We've actually never operated an Amtrak charter. Our only Amtrak moves have been coordinating the delivery of passenger cars. The Cannonball trips you mention were crewed by NS employees and our folks.
