Re: Norther Indiana Passenger Rail
I like the idea but I agree with you that it is very unlikely to happen. Without a massive infusion of cash to cover the track improvements necessary west of Fort Wayne, it won't happen (at least in my lifetime). East of Fort Wayne, the most direct route is the NS Detroit line and I believe that is ...

Kelly, it's great to see another great restoration completed by FWRHS.

GR&I Track Work
For the last two mornings, when I crossed the north end of the GR&I on I-69, I see a track crew working just east of the State Highway Garage. Is this routine maintenance or something else?

Re: Eel River
My guess is not. The Eel River had a roundhouse and yard in Butler and the FW&J had facilities in Fort Wayne. Of course B&O had everything in Garrett.

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?
Kelly, as I see it, the transfer of the purchase agreement for the old railroad ROW only gets HJ goodwill from the city. If NS got $520K for the old ROW, what do they want for the West Wayne property? Unless there is some yet to be announced help from the city in procuring the land, you are no bette...

Re: Back Again
When I was a student at IPFW in the 70's, there was a copy of the proposal for an expressway system for Fort Wayne in the library. I think the Feds were looking at it as a precursor to the interstate system and offered to pay for most of it. The north-south route, IIRC, started somewhere on the sout...

Re: Can anybody explain the city of Fort Wayne's lack of interest in Headwater's Junction?
I think the mere fact that the Henry administration has not shown any support whatsoever for the HWJ concept is telling. "If you are not for me, you are against me." comes to mind as appropriate observation. It is obvious that Henry (or more probably, his handlers) are against the museum idea. I am ...

Re: ND&W Photos
I had to go to Woodburn yesterday afternoon on business, so naturally I had to swing up 101 and drive down the street along the tracks. I was surprised to see only three covered hoppers on a siding. Last time I was there, there were maybe a dozen cars there.

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week
The actual end of the FW&J was at the PRR crossing at Junction. Remember the track continued south across the NKP at West Wayne, past Paula's Seafood at main Street, crossing the GR&I at Park. I believe NYC had trackage rignts to Hugo but that was NKP owned track. Likewise, I believe NKP had trackag...

I read on another thread somewhere that they are extending the end of the double track at Hadley to the siding at Dunfee.
