Re: NS 324

I watched 324 as it passed Valpo at 930. It had 65 cars, mostly EJE empty coil cars. It is a similar (but larger) train to 323.

Does anyone know if this is a Van Loon turn? and where the cars run to?

Re: NS 295

The 295 does seem to have replaced the 25A and runs about 12 hours later that 25A did. It runs thru Valpo around 7-8pm.

Didnt know it originated in Englewood. Is the routing via the IHB at East Chicago to Osborn?

NS 324

I have heard an NS 324 the past two nights thru Valpo around 9pm, westbound.

Up until a year ago, 324 was the Elkhart - FtWayne counterpart to 365. It was discontinued last year. Now the symbol has reappeared, but operating westbound.

Anyone know what is up?

Re: NS Bucyrus, OH new connection with CF&E.

Regarding Claypool, one must also remember there is a Ft Wayne - Elkhart train (365) which runs all the way to Osborn (Hammond) then up the IHB and back east on the ex NYC to Elkhart. Two crews are needed. No doubt one crew would handle the train with the connection. NS is currently running intermod...

Re: NS on CFE today

It does appear that NS has begun exercizing trackage rights on the CFE, effective 12/01/2008.

Rumor has it 1 train each way daily, soon to be expanded to 2x. That will make CFE a busy operation. Good thing they got the line rehabbed.

NS on CFE today

NS ran the 25A on the CFE line today. It was thru Valparaiso at 940am, eastbound with a Conrail engine leading.

Any idea as to why?

CF&E Slow orders

Has anyone heard of slow orders on the CF&E. I talked to an outlawed crew recently and they indicated a FRA crew inspected the entire line twice and discovered 27 defects and placed 10mph slow orders on those. On the west end there is a 10mph limit between West Spriggsboro and County (Hobart). NS us...

Re: CF&E

For what it is worth...there is a WB CFE parked at Hamlet, In this morning with two big ex Southern Pacific units. The lead unit is 9392 and the second is 9362. There are about 75 cars trailing. I am curious as to why the train is parked there. FWCH usually runs at night and if it only made it to Ha...

the key

The key to this entire deal is the distribution centers which would be built along with the intermodal yard. Think about how products are distributed these days and the dc's are being built in key locations. Chicago has filled up and the next available land is 60 miles from downtown. Anyone here see...

7800 cars a year = 21 cars per day.

Looks like L41 is going to be busy, or they will have a local based there.
Either way, the NKP continues to pay dividends for NS.

Did you ever get the info needed? I have a 1953 OG, but it is in bad shape with the index to the railroads missing. I have looked for Ferdiand RR with no luck.

My 1946 OG has listings for passenger trains tho.
