Re: Wabash 4th District Where Diz ?

There are mechanical rods from a armstrong interlocking visible so either of those is probably a safe guess but I wonder what purpose this building served. There appears to be an outhouse in the background.

Re: LE&W NKP Line

There was a time it did have a lot of traffic. When the NKP moved their acquired main line operations from the Cloverleaf via Continental and Delphos to the LE&W via Lima, there was a tremendous amount of traffic. Even in the 1970's, there were at least eight trains a day, plus a good deal of se...

It'd be great to see a shot from today for comparison.

Re: Fred Seitz and the New York Central Railroad (Lansing Division)

That was interesting reading. Every time I ever walked the Pufferbelly Trail between Dupont Road and Wallen Road, I always wondered just how much train traffic there was on the line, assuming that in the glory days of railroads, that it was a busy line. It was fun to read this and see how many train...

Re: LaOtto Postcard 1910 circa

I was thinking, this was an era when interlocking towers dotted the landscape, between Columbia City and Butler, there were five, Van, LaOtto, the one south of Garrett crossing the interurban, Auburn Junction, and Butler. They were once everywhere. I like how you can even see the distant signal on t...

Re: Indiana railroad map 1906

Right off the bat, I learn that Junction, on the west side of Fort Wayne, where the GR&I branched off, was once called Grand Rapids Junction. I'm sure there's other interesting things to learn.

Re: Portland Indiana

I'm surprised that a town the size of Portland had such a small standard looking PRR depot. The diamond is protected by a target signal but, if I remember correctly, the GR&I had a bridge over the Salamonie River just north of the LE&W/NKP diamond and with the placement of the water tank, I'...

Re: GR&I Depot Bryant Indiana

I was wondering if they were perhaps putting on new shingles or repairing some damage to the roof rather than it being a picture of the depot under construction. I see what appears to be a train approaching in the far off distance, see the smoke plume and a couple of the men appear to be looking in ...

Re: Cincinnati, Bluffton & Chicago 4-4-0 # 27

Is this the engine that went into the Wabash River when the bridge collapsed in 1913, killing the engineer? Also, I've read and probably posted here the story about the fireman who was killed on the CB&C when they were running backwards somewhere south of Bluffton, I believe. I can't remember th...

Re: Where Diz 3 14 17 ?

The NKP depot at Portland was destroyed in a derailment in 1962.

I've never seen a picture of the GR&I depot that surely was in Portland somewhere.

Re: Portland IN, GR&I looking south

There's a 1960 Chevy parked on the street on the right, looks to be some late 50's cars in the parking lot on the left, including, possibly a 56 Chevy. I didn't know that the GR&I got the axe that early, I'm guessing by 1976 that it was wiped out south of Decatur when Conrail came into existence...
