Re: Clover Leaf head on crash Bluffton IN

I would hazard a guess that it's right in Bluffton and that is the LE&W main in the foreground. I love those old pictures with crowds of the public looking over the wreck. There's several bicycles lying in the grass. Might that be shared to the Clover Leaf Facebook page?

Re: Ft. Wayne FW&J 4th St. Yards 2018

Did you find any scrap in the nature of knuckles, drawbars, the lids that used to be over friction bearings. Someone I knew walked the LS&MS Old Road line in Ohio between Monroeville and Norwalk, OH, with a metal detector and found all sorts of things of that nature. I used to wonder what would have...

You got me, I thought I was going to find another great historical picture of Steubenville, maybe with the tower visible. Didn't know but you sure got me.

Re: NS Dispatchers

It might well be. The division offices are still there but the timekeeping duties were moved years ago and now the dispatcher forces are departing. With the consolidation of the dispatchers, it might well lead to the consolidation of more divisions. I understand that the Dearborn Division has a rela...

Re: NKP # 157

Fascinating discussion. It's too bad we'll probably never have a resolution but I sure like seeing these old pictures. It's always a big surprise to find a picture of a location that you're familiar with and learning, via the picture, that it looked almost nothing like what your present day self is ...

Re: NKP # 157

Your point about the possibility that's the interurban is well taken. I based my guess on what I think I'm seeing in the background. Is that a large building on the left, a predecessor to Slater Steel, perhaps. The buildings on the right in the background, I don't know what they are but the entire l...

Re: NKP # 157

I think that guessing the picture is just south of Junction might be a safe guess. That visible whistle post might well be for today's Taylor Street.

Re: NKP # 157

Here's what I found after some searching, from the Cincinnati Enquirer of June 4, 1923. Old Fort was once Fort Seneca. Think of the crews that had to clean that up.

NS Dispatchers

It's being reported that Norfolk Southern is serving notice and moving all dispatchers systemwide to Atlanta.

Re: Wabash 4th District Where Diz ?

There are mechanical rods from a armstrong interlocking visible so either of those is probably a safe guess but I wonder what purpose this building served. There appears to be an outhouse in the background.

Re: LE&W NKP Line

There was a time it did have a lot of traffic. When the NKP moved their acquired main line operations from the Cloverleaf via Continental and Delphos to the LE&W via Lima, there was a tremendous amount of traffic. Even in the 1970's, there were at least eight trains a day, plus a good deal of season...
