Re: NS 9368 on flat car.

I read on another site that this unit and 9658 hit a washout on May 11 in Hillsdale, Mississippi.

Re: Fort Wayne & Northern Indiana Traction and NKP freight depots

Didn't the NKP freighthouse stand until sometime in the mid-sixties, when it was either demolished or burned? Anyone know?

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

Yes, up until sometime about 1982, they ran mainline freight through Fort Wayne and also ran up the GR&I to Kendallville (I think CR still did this for a period of time) and then on the Lake Shore to Elkhart. There were also yard engines in Fort Wayne. Then the axe fell and all the traffic was moved...

Nice picture....that unit number is symbolic of the date NS took it's slice of the pie, correct?
That would have been June 1, 1999. So, 6199 would be appropriate.

When was the last day they made the trek up to the interchange near Garrett on the PRR Butler Branch?

If you look at Google at the street, it doesn't really look a whole lot different now.

There are things I can only speculate about, I'm nearly a decade-old retiree so some of my information may be well outdated.

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

There are two ways to get into or depart Fort Wayne for Chicago or Elkhart trains. Either trains are routed via the NKP through Fort Wayne over the elevation, through the connection onto the CF&E west of Thomas Road. Unless things have changed drastically, both routes are used on a regular basis and...

Re: Bob's Fort Wayne area photo of the week

Any engineer working the Chicago District on a regular basis would be qualified on all of the routes into Fort Wayne accessible from the Chicago District. There would be no necessity for pilots or changing of crews. Also, crews on those special trains are crews that regularly work that district. Usu...

Re: January 20 - Junctions

Craig, that would be the one, I really wasn't sure of the year. I do remember it snowing, now that you mention it. I remember going out looking for some of the remaining landmarks that you displayed in your presentation in the days after. I found them, too.

Re: January 20 - Junctions

I remember enjoying one of your interurban presentations that you had at the Dupont library branch. IIRC, there were a couple of people there who could remember the interurbans, a group that nearly disappeared by now, I imagine.

That is a small group, I thought there might be a bigger turnout. If I didn't live a thousand miles away from Fort Wayne now, I would have been there.

Re: NS Dispatchers

It was reported that the dispatcher's office in Fort Wayne was eliminated at 6AM on October 30. One of the dispatchers posted this on Facebook and said, "That's all, folks".
